Firefighting Basic Requirements
Generally speaking, potential fire fighter recruits must be 18, pass a written exam, pass a basic health exam which includes a drug screening, and perform well on a series of physical challenges. It is important to note that even after employment, drug screenings may still occur.
Personality traits for fire fighters are what you might expect: remaining calm and cool under pressure, brave, physical strength as well as endurance, a strong moral and ethical character, good judgment and fast decision making.
For senior ranking fire fighters who have younger ones under their command, they must also project leadership, a sense of respect, and an assertive manner. In doing so, the fire company functions to its maximum potential.
