As you are undoubtedly aware, firefighting is one of the most dangerous professions in existence. Not only are you subjected to brutal conditions in the form of heat, unstable buildings and or brush/forest, but you must also deal with fatigue and sleep deprivation from working extremely long hours.

A firefighter never knows when the call is going to come in, and when it does he (or she) has to be ready. Of course, between calls there can be a lot of downtime, which makes keeping your edge even tougher. A person once said of firefighting: "It's long periods of boredom punctuated by brief episodes of absolute terror".
